This qualification has been specifically designed for all employees to help raise their awareness of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices.

Understand the importance of safe manual handling:
- Recognise the potential injuries and ill health associated with incorrect manual handling
- Distinguish between employers’ and employees’ duties relating to manual handling at work
- Identify the consequences for noncompliance with health and safety requirements at work
Know how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety:
- Recognise the definitions of ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ in the context of manual handling work
- Identify the process for carrying out a manual handling risk assessment
- Recognise the principle of the risk control hierarchy when applied to manual handling
Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety:
- Identify safe movement principles associated with manual handling
- Recognise the types of equipment designed to be used for manual handling tasks
- Identify the requirements for the testing, servicing and examination of manual handling and lifting equipment
