Slate & Tile

This course is designed for learners aged between 16-24 that want to pursue a career in Slate & Tile Roofing. This course covers a two-year period, candidates will attend day release off the job training at the roofing college/ roof training centre once a week. The remainder of the time is spent with the employer on site, gaining experience necessary for the assessment on the NVQ/SVQ Diploma which is carried by an assessor from the training centre.

How it works

  • Apprentice attends college 1 day a week and works with employee the other 4 days on ‘on the job training’
  • Apprentice studies towards a Level 2 Slate & Tile Diploma and Level 2 Slate & Tile NVQ
  • Mixture of theory and practical sessions

Course Content

Level 2 Diploma in Roof Slating & Tiling

– Install single-lap roof coverings to a variable gauge
– Install plain tile roof coverings
– Install regular sized natural roof slates to standard roof details
– Strip and reclaim pitched roof coverings
– Install roofing backgrounds and ancillary components
– Install pre-formed weathering flashings to roofs

Cskills Awards Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations

The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
– Installing Roofing Backgrounds and Components in the Workplace
– Installing Pre-formed Weathering Flashings to Roofs in the Workplace
– Installing Single-Lap Roof Coverings to a Variable Gauge in the Workplace
– Installing Plain Tile Roof Coverings in the Workplace
– Installing Regular Sized Natural Roof Slate to Standard Roof Details in the Workplace
– Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
– Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
– Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

Funding

Grant payments are available for Construction Industry Training Board members (CITB) subject to terms and conditions of approximately £5000-£6000 Per Apprentice.
